Significance and Benefits of Yoga

Significance and Benefits of Yoga.
The word ‘yoga’ means yoke. It refers to the union of mind, body and spirit, as well as the union of Self to God, or the Universal Power. Hatha yoga, which is the physical practice common in yoga classes, translates as Sun and Moon, or the balance of the opposite forces, such as the masculine and feminine. A typical yoga class involves centering, asanas, (physical poses), pranayama, (breath control) and relaxation or meditation. It proves a practice of self-care and is considered a philosophy, science and art. Different schools of yoga stress different aspects, but all systems share one common ideological basis–the betterment of the individual practitioner and that of humanity.
